Natural Philosophy
This project had the students pair up and think of a question that they will try attempting to answer using logic, reason, and apply a mini experiment upon it. This project was inspired from the greek philosophers who moved away from magical ways and finding answers with logical reasons. The pair had to then take note of what would be happening throughout their experiment by taking pictures, finding research, and blogging about the project.
I learned that in order to get good results during an experiment you need to have patience. My partner and I decided to do an experiment with rock candy , at the end of the project we did not receive the results we were hoping for. I also learned that during this project you need to work together as a team instead of as one. My partner and I both had great communication skills that we used towards each other because when it came to buying the supplies for the project we would always take in each others opinions. Patience and listening are two great skills to have later on in life.

Lab Write Up
The experiment with creating rock candy didn't go as I hoped for. Unfortunately, my partner and I didn't have enough time to see the candy actually form. We were able to follow the series of steps of creating the candy but it takes about two weeks for it to form. We displayed the rock candy in a glass cup so that we could see through the cup if any changes would have occurred. I researched this experiment and to make the rock candy more presentable my partner and I decided to use food coloring so that when the rock candy did form it would be a certain color.
Throughout the first week of the project including the weekends there wasn't that much change throughout the experiment. Although, there there were some observations that I did notice throughout the process of creating the rock candy. While my partner and I would be creating the sugar water, the water would keep turning a darker shade of yellow because the sugar had dissolved in the hot water. I also noticed that the water over a couple days started to get caramelized and would turn into this thick syrup like liquid.
I received undesired results of this experiment. I think that the lack of time we had to see the candy form wasn't enough time, and thinking that the candy would have enough time to form contributed to this experiment. I feel like if we would have started on the project earlier than my partner and I would have seen better results. Im sure if don't miss any steps to make the experiment go wrong. Even though I received the results I wasn't expecting and didn't like, I still would try to make the best of things by noticing how the process of the experiment went and still checking up on the experiment by observing anything different, and taking pictures of it.
I worked with Alex and I think that both of us as a partnership worked well together. We would never need to have one of us do all the work while the other would fool around. When it came to buying the supplies Alex was always offering to buy them which was great but since I didn't want him to be stuck buying everything for the project we both decided to split the materials list in half so that the spending load would be about the same as well as the workload.
If I could read this project to get better results I would have started earlier on the project because there wasn't that much change throughout the time we started on the time now. I also would would compare rock candy that had been formed already with the one that would be forming just to see the difference between both, and also compare the similarities. I think I would want to have a different partner just to mix things up because I love getting to work with everyone in my class to get to know my classmates better but, I would be absolutely fine with Alex as my partner again because we collaborated really well with each other and we could depend on each other to do certain tasks if needed. I would want to continue the rock candy experiment given that theres not enough time before the deadlines because it would be interesting to see if my partner and I followed the procedure correctly and if we didn't we go see where we went wrong. It would be cool to see how the candy would form each day when the crystals came close to the string.
