The Price of Life
For our first semester project, my math teacher, Ms. Mona Kiani created this project that will ensure students a life plan after high school or college. Each student needed to act as if they were really living on their own. Therefore we all had to research what college we will be attending, how will we be paying for it, we had to calculate our monthly and yearly expense totals. We also needed to include our surplas and debt to know how much money we would be using. Thats just part of it. This project made each student take everything that they use on a daily basis that costs money and time, and we were suppose to learn how to manage all of it independently.
My process throughout this project was easy, but stressful. I already had an idea of what my life would turn out to be like after college (the path I chose to take). The problem was for me was that I never took into account that my life would end up being really expensive. As I was in the middle of researching, every expense on my list that I would need when Im older costs so much money. It really made me think, "how on earth am I going to have enough money!?". I started to freak out as we got more into the project because Ms. Mona really pushed us to make sure everything is calculated to the extent. I had to think of how I would be paying for my bills, my extra activity money, how I would support myself with insurance. This project made me realize that you really need to be ready to take on the world because its a tough place to live in. I also gained much respect to all the adults that have ever been in my life, I now know what they go through everyday. Im really glad that I got to do this project because Ive always been interested in my life after high school or college, and I always had a faint idea of how I would get around. Now I know plenty of information that could later on help me such as making spreadsheets to help manage what money your using, how to split your bills so you pay less, and that there are many ways to stretch out a dollar which could help you out in the long run.
